Definition

A connection provider through which the platform receives market data and sends orders to the account. The firm determines whether your account runs on Rithmic or Tradovate, and the connection determines which platforms can be used.

Detailed explanation

Upon first login, you electronically sign Rithmic's market data agreement and declare whether you are Professional or Non-Professional. The signing is done in Rithmic's software, R | Trader or R | Trader Pro, using the login details provided by the firm. After signing, configure the Rithmic connection in your chosen platform, such as NinjaTrader. Those who hold NinjaTrader accounts on both connections enable the Multi-provider option.

An example from the prop world

At Apex Trader Funding, the commission for ES and NQ contracts is $1.99 per side in a Rithmic account and $1.55 in a Tradovate account. A trader who makes 20 round-trip mini trades per day, 40 sides, pays $79.60 in Rithmic versus $62 in Tradovate.

Tradovate connection and platform

Broker and futures connection, with its own trading platform that also works in the browser and on mobile. Almost all prop firms on the site offer accounts on Tradovate, and you also connect to TradingView through it.

NinjaTrader platform

A trading and charting platform for futures, one of the most common among prop firm traders. The desktop version runs on Windows only and connects to the account via Rithmic or Tradovate, depending on what the firm provided.

Level 1 and Level 2 market data

Level 1 is the last price and the nearest bid and ask line. Level 2, also called Depth of Market (DOM), shows pending orders at several price levels above and below. In some prop firms, Level 1 is included in the price, and Level 2 costs extra or is not available at all.

The payment for each contract execution. A per-side commission is charged upon entry and again upon exit, and Round Turn is both sides together. In prop firms, commissions are deducted from the account's profit and loss, thus affecting the profit target, the threshold, and the days counted for payout.

TradingView platform

A browser-based charting and technical analysis platform that can also be used for trading when connected to a broker. With prop firms, you connect your Tradovate account and send orders directly from the chart.
