Qualifying Day / Winning Day

Firm terms

Definition

A trading day that closes with a profit of at least a minimum amount set by the firm. Most firms require accumulating several such days before any payout request, and a day with a profit below the threshold does not advance the payout.

Detailed explanation

The requirement is designed to prevent a payout after one lucky day. In practice, it sets a pace: someone who trades with a very small position can end days with a profit but not accumulate any qualifying days. Two details worth checking: whether the days need to be consecutive (in most firms, no), and whether the amount is measured after commissions. And anyone comparing firms multiplies the number of days by the minimum amount to know the minimum profit before each payout.

An example from the prop world

In FTMO Futures, for the 50K Growth plan, a qualifying day is a day that closes with a profit of at least $150, and you need 4 such days before a payout request. For the Pro plan of the same size, you need 5 days of at least $200.

How it works at the firms on this site

Based on the rules listed on our firm pages. Rules get updated, so check the firm's page before buying.

The payout calculator

How much you can withdraw and when, under the firm's rules

Payout Cycle

The period and conditions between one payout request and the next. In each cycle, the firm's conditions must be met again: qualifying days, minimum profit, and sometimes a consistency rule that restarts from zero after each payout.

Minimum trading days

The number of trading days you must trade before passing an evaluation, or before requesting a payout. At some firms one day is enough, and some require several.

Payout cap

The maximum amount you may withdraw in one request or one payout cycle, even if the profit in the account is higher.

Consistency rule

A restriction applied at prop firms (both in the evaluation phases and in funded accounts) to make sure the trader operates systematically and steadily rather than relying on luck or aggressive gambling. The rule usually requires that the best trading day's profit not exceed a set percentage of total profit (or sets limits on position size), ensuring the trading account is built on balanced performance over time and not on a one-time “big hit”.

Renewal

An action that happens automatically every month (or every 30 days), meant to extend the evaluation account's subscription and ensure continuous access so you can keep trading.

Reset

An account reset is a manual action meant to return the trading account to its original starting state by restoring the balance and restarting progress.
