Definition

The trading infrastructure on which TopstepX, Topstep's platform, is built. It allows connecting TopstepX to external tools like TradeSyncer with an API key, and duplicating trades to accounts with other firms.

Detailed explanation

The API key is created within the platform itself, not on the Project X website: in TopstepX, go to Settings, then API, first link Project X, authorize, and click Add Key. In TradeSyncer, select TopstepX (Project X) connection and fill in the company username and key. A tip from our experience: select and paste the key, because the copy button usually doesn't work there.

An example from the prop world

A trader with an XFA account at Topstep and a Tradovate account at another firm connects both to TradeSyncer, sets TopstepX as the lead account, and all their trades are duplicated to the second account according to the ratio they set.

Topstep

TopstepX's built-in Trade Copier works in Practice, Trading Combine, and Express Funded accounts, but not in Live Funded accounts.

TradeSyncer software

Cloud trade copying service: a trade in the leading account is replicated to follower accounts, even across different prop firms and connections, without the platform screen needing to be open. Each follower account has its own quantity ratio defined.

Trade copying

Automatically duplicating every trade from a lead account to follower accounts, so you trade once across several accounts. It's done with software such as TradeSyncer or Replikanto, or with a copy tool built into the platform.

Tradovate connection and platform

Broker and futures connection, with its own trading platform that also works in the browser and on mobile. Almost all prop firms on the site offer accounts on Tradovate, and you also connect to TradingView through it.

Rithmic connection

A connection provider through which the platform receives market data and sends orders to the account. The firm determines whether your account runs on Rithmic or Tradovate, and the connection determines which platforms can be used.

NinjaTrader platform

A trading and charting platform for futures, one of the most common among prop firm traders. The desktop version runs on Windows only and connects to the account via Rithmic or Tradovate, depending on what the firm provided.
