Discount code and partner code

Discount Code vs Affiliate Code

Firm terms

Definition

A discount code (coupon) lowers the price at checkout according to the deal active at that moment. A partner code identifies who referred you to the firm and does not change the price. Some firms have a separate field for each at checkout.

Detailed explanation

A discount is always for a specific deal at a specific time, so there's no point in remembering percentages: check the active discount on the Deals page before purchasing, and the final price appears at checkout after entering the code. A partner code is for attribution. It doesn't save money, but it's what allows a site like PAYLESS to continue reviewing and comparing firms without charging you.

An example from the prop world

FTMO Futures checkout has an Affiliate code field and a separate Discount field. The affiliate code does not change the price, and both fields can be used together. A code entered at checkout overrides any referral link.

How it works at the firms on this site

Based on the rules listed on our firm pages. Rules get updated, so check the firm's page before buying.

FTMO Futures

The FTMO code is an affiliate code, which identifies the referral and does not change the price. The referral link only qualifies an FTMO account opened through it, and anyone already registered with FTMO enters the code at checkout.

Activation fee

A one-time payment some firms charge after you pass the evaluation, to activate the funded account. At other firms the evaluation price already includes activation.

Reset

An account reset is a manual action meant to return the trading account to its original starting state by restoring the balance and restarting progress.

Evaluation

The first stage at a prop firm: a demo account where you need to reach a profit target without crossing the loss limits. Those who pass get a funded account.

Renewal

An action that happens automatically every month (or every 30 days), meant to extend the evaluation account's subscription and ensure continuous access so you can keep trading.

Consistency rule

A restriction applied at prop firms (both in the evaluation phases and in funded accounts) to make sure the trader operates systematically and steadily rather than relying on luck or aggressive gambling. The rule usually requires that the best trading day's profit not exceed a set percentage of total profit (or sets limits on position size), ensuring the trading account is built on balanced performance over time and not on a one-time “big hit”.
